Although the Lansing Community College Ice Hockey team is considered a club sport, the program is run in a very professional approach. Funded through player dues, fundraising and sponsors, the team works hard on and off the ice to keep the program existing. On average the team has to come up with about $20,000 a season.
The LCC Ice Hockey program is a member of the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference and the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The team plays between 20 and 25 games per season and practices twice a week. The home ice for games and practices is at the Summit Ice hockey arena near Lansing. For all away games, the team carpools.
All team members are required to take and pass 9 credits per semester and maintain at least a 2.5 G.P.A. The season begins with a general interest meeting during the 3rd week of August. After the meeting the team has its open try-outs.
The season starts in the end of september and runs to early March. All practices and games are suspended for major holidays and school closings. The team consists of approximately 21 players and three coaches. The players come from various teams from around Michigan. Most players have played either at the varsity high school level or with a travel hockey program.
